Write. Rewrite. Repeat.

After arriving in Illinois tuesday night via FIRST CLASS UPGRADE (thanks Delta), we’re in the midst of writing new songs and rewriting old ones.

Hard at work, rewriting in a practice room.

Our changes to Golden Gate are mainly involving one of the main characters, Blair.

We played Blair’s songs for Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty as part of the Dramatists Guild Fellowship last year and realized his character arc wasn’t as strong as the other characters.

Blair came to a realization about far too early in the show, giving him nowhere to go for the rest of the show, and making for a somewhat static character.

We’ve reworked the arc and are waiting to bring in a new song and a new reprise tonight at rehearsal.

At this point, it could be amazing, or it could be the worst thing we’ve ever written. That’s the fun of these workshop experiences. We can try out new ideas and drastic changes, and if it’s terrible, we scrap it and go back to what we had.

Ah. We shall see!
